What is held, and on what basis

The design you make – your line, the place you name and the coordinates the place resolves to – is held to make your print and to show you the preview you approve. That is the performance of the contract you entered when you ordered, and there is no version of this product that works without it.

The address your parcel goes to is given at Shopify’s checkout and held there. A copy of it reaches us inside the notification Shopify sends when the order is paid, and that copy is held under the window in the table below rather than kept: it is emptied as soon as the order ships, is refunded or is cancelled, and at 30 days whatever happens. The operator reads the address off the order itself when the parcel is made up, and the print supplier receives it on the label.

How many people saw the offer and how many went on to order is counted without anything on your device: no cookie, no fingerprint, no identifier, and no third-party analytics on any page of this site. Those counters are numbers about pages, not about people.

And sooner than that as soon as the case is settled – shipped, refunded or cancelled. A settled order has nothing left to make, so the raw intake goes then rather than waiting out the cap.

The body Shopify sends us when an order is paid. Emptied as soon as the order ships, is refunded or is cancelled, and at the cap otherwise. The row it sat in stays, because it is the gate a repeated delivery meets and Shopify retries for hours after the body has gone; what is emptied is everything the body carried.

They are derived from what you typed rather than a copy of it, and they are what a reprint or a complaint is checked against.

What is left in our own record once your line, your place and your coordinates have gone at the window above: the instant the sky was computed for and the zone it was computed in. It is what the proof snapshot attests to, so it goes when the proof goes – row and snapshots together, in the same pass, and after it nothing here can say what moment your print was of.

Shopify is sent a reference and a price, never your sentence or your coordinates

The cart carries the variant, the quantity and one opaque reference to the design you made. Your line, the place you named and the coordinates behind it stay in our own database and our own storage. What comes back from Shopify once you have paid is matched against that reference, which is why nothing you wrote has to travel there for your order to find your print.

A design you start and abandon is deleted within 7 days

The window is absolute: it is counted from when the design was made, never from the last time it was opened, so nothing survives by being looked at. What goes is the intake itself – your line, the place and the coordinates – rather than a link to it. An order you paid for is kept instead under the windows in the table above, because it has a print to make.

nothing you write trains anything

Your sentence is typeset, not generated, and the sky is computed from a star catalogue. No model is trained on what you write, by us or by anyone else, and nothing you type is sent anywhere for that purpose.

if you ask us to erase your order we erase it in the database, the files and the backups

One command erases one order: the sealed record and its payloads, the checkout binding, the held print files and the proof preview, the order line, and the draft row that holds your sentence and your coordinates. What is left afterwards is three fields – a keyed hash of what was erased, why, and when – enough to prove the erasure happened and not enough to reconstruct anything it erased. A database backup is not erased into: it ages out on its own expiry, so that half of this promise is a schedule rather than a command, and the copy of the order notification goes on the window in the table above rather than on the request.

Cookies

Two, and neither of them is about you. Building a design sets one on /create: it holds a random value, it is what binds the preview you approve to the browser you approved it in, and it lasts a day. Opening the link to your order sets the other: it holds a random value tied to that one link, it is what makes the button you press a button pressed on the page we served you, and it lasts an hour.

Both are read back on the next press from the same page and nowhere else. Neither identifies you, neither is sent to anyone, and neither survives its window. No other page of this site sets one, and there is no analytics, advertising or tracking cookie anywhere on it.

Who else ever sees any of it

Shopify runs the checkout and holds the payment and the delivery address, as the merchant of this shop. The print supplier receives the finished picture and the address on the parcel, and receives it only once the order has gone into production. The hosting and storage this deployment runs on hold the data on our behalf and do not use it. That is the whole list – nobody is sent anything for advertising, scoring or model training.

Asking for a copy, a correction or an erasure

A correction before printing is the order page’s own button, and it costs nothing. For a copy of what is held, a correction afterwards or an erasure, write with your order number – to kontakt@chartednight.com. You are answered within 30 days of the day the request reaches us. An erasure is carried out as described in the fourth promise above and cannot be undone.

The link to your order page is a key to your own print. Please quote the order number rather than forwarding the link, and expect to be asked for it rather than for anything you typed.
